PALM with financial support from NARO under the competitive grant scheme of NARO undertook on farm research on improvement of small scale beekeeping in West Nile agro-ecological zone. The study sought to evaluate factors influencing hive colonization, abscondment and effect of management practices on colony performance. The study was conducted in Moyo, Yumbe and Koboko districts.

PALM trained a number of farmers in apiary management practices, trained model farmers in queen rearing and organized exchange visits for farmers to share experiences. We published and shared the findings of the study at regional, national and international fora.
