PALM Corps is a growing NGO licensed to operate in West Nile and northern Uganda. The vision
of the organization is “A world where the poorest and most vulnerable communities live a
dignified, healthy, peaceful and productive life”.
PALM Corps and ACF (Lead Partner) are implementing nutrition activities in Adjumani refugee
settlement with funding from WFP. PALM Corps (as local partner) will be responsible for
community nutrition activities which involves provision of nutrition education to target
beneficiaries using the care group approach as well as community engagement to address
barriers to recommended IYFC and maternal nutrition practices.
Therefore, PALM Corps is inviting applications for the following vacancies that exist:
Community Nutrition Coordinator (1 position based in Adjumani)
Purpose of the position:
Ensure the implementation of mother care groups approach in
Adjumani refugee settlement in a timely and professional manner in line with the project workplan and in full coordination with ACF as well as local authorities
The specific duties:
a) Technical support
• Strengthen the linkages between community based health structures for early case
identification, referral and management of Moderate Acute Malnutrition.
• Support beneficiary identification of children 24-59 months in the targeted settlements
• Organize a capacity development action plan for lead mothers
• Ensure that management of MAM component is part of the integrated health outreaches
• Support active case finding, referral and follow up for acute malnutrition and common
childhood illnesses at health facility and community level
• Develop concept notes for the drama groups and community dialogues for community
sensitization
• Strengthen the link between referrals and follow up of beneficiaries from community to
health facilities
• Participate actively in monthly and quarterly VHT meetings
• Assist in the development and dissemination of relevant IEC materials on nutrition activities
• Ensure that the care groups are equipped with the necessary tools that they need for the
implementation of activities such as meetings, modular trainings and conducting food
demonstrations.
b) Assessment and reporting
• Participate in the periodic Weight for Height nutrition screening to assess for GAM level in
the community.
• Ensure regular collection of household nutrition data, compilation and reporting
• Ensure regular and timely monthly reporting among the CBFs on the project activities in the
catchment area.
• Oversee reporting on project progress, success stories and lessons learned during project
implementation.
• Ensure the timely and effective reporting of information from the CBFs
c) Staff Management & Supervision
• Organize and facilitate regular meetings with CBFs, assess their performance and provide
regular feedback on the matters discussed
• Identify and propose training needs of Lead Mothers in accordance to the program
requirements
• Conduct on the job mentorship and supervision for the CBFs
d) Coordination & Representation
• Liaise with ACF and the district to ensure active engagement of VHTs in the catchment area
• Actively participate in events organized in both the refugee and host community setting
• Coordinate with other sections of PALM Corps and all other stakeholders in the settlement
• Ensure community leaders participate in project activities and organize regular community
engagement to address areas for program improvement.
• Represent PALM Corps in nutrition and health related meetings organized by partners and
other stakeholders.
• Other duties assigned from time to time
Qualifications:
• Bachelor degree in Nutrition or related field with 3 years’ experience in implementing care
group approach and Maternal Child Health Program.
• Knowledge of word processor, spreadsheet and power point; software use like ENA, SPSS
plus other programs advantageous.
• Demonstrated experience and/or personal commitment to promoting gender equality within
the work
• Excellent facilitation skills
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently
• Extremely flexible with the ability to cope with stressful situations
• Excellent reporting skills with good oral and written communication skills
• Knowledge of the local language is an added advantage
• Diplomatic and culturally sensitive
• Possession of a valid riding permit
• Proven ability to manage deadlines, work independently with minimal supervision, submit
high-quality work plans, prioritize workload, and multi-task in fast-paced environment
• Ability to travel to field offices within West Nile region
